Reaching for the Moon
Prologue
As I entered the bus, a feeling of uneasiness swept through my body. Perhaps it was because there was no one to see me off. Or was it the dark clouds that covered the city that made me so insecure, or maybe it was the intensity of being in a bus terminal with so many people running around in total chaos. Or perhaps it was because I was about to start one of the most important journeys of my whole life. One that would change my life and its meaning.
Thoughts were entering and leaving my mind as quickly as people were entering and leaving the bus terminal. I felt sad and lonely. I was leaving the world as far as I was concerned. I closed my eyes in an effort to calm myself. As I drifted away I found myself standing on a corner. The streets which were normally active with people were deserted. It was dark and I was able to see my shadow from the street lights that towered high above me. I looked up. Beyond the street light was a full moon. It had an unusual glow about it. I looked down the street hoping that someone would come an joined me on the corner. I then noticed the outline of a man walking towards me. I wasn't able to make out who it was, but he was pointing towards the sky. I was puzzled and looked up to see what it was that he was pointing at. The moon was glowing brighter than ever. I was in awe as I watched the moon. I became restless and a tremendous urge came over me to touch the moon. I extended my hand and to my amazement I felt my body being pulled up into the air. I was frightened out of my mind as I looked down and saw everything that I was familiar with shrinking away. I rose further and further into the atmosphere. I looked up at the moon shining bright like a beacon in the dark and its presence seemed to comfort me.
